Seven Steps to Translocate a Rhino

Rescuing a rhino from an area experiencing high poaching pressure and moving it to the safety of Botswana is a huge undertaking. Every step requires careful planning and preparation. It can take up to eight months from the day the first letter is sent to the day the rhinos are finally released into the wild. Here’s how RCB and our partners tackle this meticulous operation.

It costs £52,500 to rescue and relocate just one rhino. This covers the purchase of the animal and all operational costs, from capture and quarantine, to veterinary and game capture support, and transport to safety in Botswana. It’s not cheap, but what cost would you place on an rhino’s life?
